Adelaide Strikers Women defeated Hobart Hurricanes Women in 5th match of Big Bash League 2017. The BBL match was played on December 10 at Gliderol Stadium, which is situated in Adelaide. Batting first, Adelaide Strikers Women scored 176 runs in 20 overs. Hobart Hurricanes Women didn’t manage to chase the target of 177 runs in 120 balls and ended up scoring 93 runs in 19 overs.
After winning the toss, Adelaide Strikers Women elected to bat first. Opener players Suzie Bates and Tammy Beaumont stepped into the field to start the first inning. Scoring 3 runs in 5 balls, Beaumont lost her wicket in 4th over. Next cricketer Tahlia McGrath could not score maximum individual runs and walked back to pavilion after scoring 8 runs in 8 balls.
Sophie Devine replaced McGrath as the woman cricketer to bat next. Partnership between Devine and skipper Bates played prominent role in taking the team’s score beyond 150 runs. Players in bottom order of batting lineup could not add much runs to the team’s total score and the first inning ended with Adelaide Strikers Women scoring 176 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 6 wickets. Hurricane Hobart’s bowler Veronica Pyke picked up four wickets. Nicola Hancock took one wicket while other pacers and spinners went wicketless in today’s match. Hobart Hurricanes Women commenced the long run-chase with poor start.
Opener players Lauren Winfield and Georgia Redmayne could not set up a strong base for team’s total score. After scoring 2 runs in 7 balls, Georgia lost her wicket in the initial phase of the game. Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy came to bat next after Winfield’s dismissal in 4th over of the 2nd inning. Hitting 2 fours, the right arm young cricketer scored 21 runs in 24 balls. After she lost her wicket in 15th over, no player in the middle as well as bottom order of batting lineup succeeded in scoring huge runs individually. The team lost its all ten wickets while chasing the score of 177 runs and ended up scoring 93 runs in 18.5 overs.
Hobart Hurricanes’ bowler Amanda Wellington picked up three wickets while Samantha Betts and Tahlia McGrath took two wickets each. Megan Schutt and Sophie Devine picked up one wicket each while the other spinners and pacers went wicketless in this 20 overs match. Adelaide Strikers’ Suzie Bates received ‘Player of the Match’ award for her excellent batting performance in today’s game.
